With the passing of the Marriage Equality Act in New York State earlier this year, many same-sex couples are making preparations for a life of wedded bliss. As you gear up for your celebration, do you know what rights and obligations marriage brings or how to properly prepare for the future? This seminar will cover some of the basics couples should know including: reasons to consider a pre-nuptial agreement (they aren’t just for rich people anymore); what is separate property and how to secure it; should you adopt your spouse’s children and what obligations or rights will that create; making or updating will and trust documents; and the need to put in place power-of-attorney, health care proxy and a living will.
There is no charge to attend this event, but we ask that you RSVP by email as non-alcoholic beverages will be provided.
